Why did I wait so long to read this book? It’s almost the perfect combo of romance and action. Plus, the whole gargoyles are real/the “good guys” things? Very original.
I liked how the plot was just the right tempo where it wasn’t one huge thing after the other or super slow. It was perfect. Something major would happen, they’d deal with it (or try to at least), have some down time to get to know each other then bam! Another major thing happens. And not all of the major plot devices were dilemmas. They were also big revelations and lots of shared information.
My only small issue with this book are the characters. Our main character, Layla, is quite childish for a seventeen year old, especially around Zayne, one of her love interests that she should think of as a brother. I can’t remember Zayne’s age or if it was mentioned, but something about him just rubs me the wrong way. Roth, Layla’s other love interest, sexualizes almost every comment and thinks he’s the center of the universe. Which, whenever pointed out, blames it on being a demon. I also found Layla’s friends to be a bit annoying. They talked about the same things all of the time and had no depth to them.
But other than that, this was a fun quick read and I will definitely finish the series. I would recommend this for anyone over the age of 16 because of some sexual content.
